There was something about the summer Amelia found liberating. Normally, the girl would return to New York during the summer to be with her family, but this year, Amelia found herself staying in Newport Beach. Sunny California and, yet, the college-bound senior was still tucked safely indoors with her books. More than half of the ones resting on her desk were text books, opened to varying pages. And the rest had post-it notes projecting from its contents. Amelia, well, she was nerd; full fledged nerd. She took every piece of information and attempted to memorize it into her existence. The only time she missed a class since attending Newport High was when she fell ill, and even then, Amelia still attempted to go. Her education was important to her and she wasn't going to let being a normal teen get in the way from herself succeeding any time soon. The summer typically allowed the girl to relax, especially when not taking summer college courses. But most importantly, she was able to crack open her shell a bit and be normal.
So she wasn't the most social of beings. Amelia still managed to make ties with fellow students, most of which took part of the tutoring center. However, a few were rare friendships, in her opinion. Ashton Bennet, for one, wasn't someone expected to be friends with Amelia. The British model attempted to take Amelia under her wing near the beginning of the school year. Though, the effort really didn't take off, she was appreciative of Ashton's attempts; they made her feel human, briefly, instead of just being a source for educational needs. But Amelia still had a difficult time bringing her own self to being submersed into this entirely new scene. For the most part, whenever the summer months came about, she was still rather awkward, only able to communicate better. She didn't feel embarrassed or the need to be so withdrawn from a social scene. Instead, Amelia and her sister, Alessandra, would go up to the Hamptons, especially Montauk Beach. Of course, she still a geek. Hidden deep in her beach bag was always a book that she'd paw out given the opportunity. Well, that was expected of her, but at least Amelia worry so much about remaining all that covered while at the beach. The only thing she worried about was remember what things happened the previous night when she'd awake.
But last night felt like a distant memory to Amelia. With being preoccupied with her summer classes and worrying about the scheduling of her senior year, Amelia didn't even have time to enjoy her summer break. Hell, she would have forgotten Alessandra's birthday if she didn't have daily reminders the entire week leading up to it. Maybe she should have rethought the gifts. The tennis racket was appropriate for her sister, but Amelia went on a whim with offering her sister a night free of studying. A night where Amelia would go anywhere, regardless of how much studying she needed to do that night. And a party? Of all things Alessandra could suggest and drag Amelia to, a party was the ultimate decision. But how much could Amelia complain? Her barely conscious mind felt at ease about the evening, even though she barely recalled any of it. Well, she did remember a few moments of the previous night. Amelia remembered having a drink or two, even feeling comfortable enough to converse with people she hardly knew. It couldn't have been all that bad of a party, she did make it back to her apartment safely.
Her bare shoulders, peaking out from the covers draping over her, welcomed the strangely cool, summer air seeping in from the cracked window in her bedroom. Her curtains were drawn though the morning sunlight's intensity poured through. Her lips curled into a soft frown as she nuzzled her face deeper into the pillow. Right now, all Amelia wished for was to sleep. For the birds outside to just shut up with their chirping and let her pounding head rest. Whatever time it was, it felt too early for Amelia. Something about this morning felt different to Amelia as she lifted her head briefly, sighing heavily, before throwing it back into her pillow. She cared little about her surroundings as she lied on her stomach, blanket covering half way up her back. Maybe she indulged a bit too much in the alcohol last night with the pounding headache that started to take full effect. Of course the girl wasn't all that accustom to alcohol to begin with, so Amelia began to excuse it as being the alcohol's fault as she started to doze back to sleep.
