"Hey, Sha," the voice whispered, a hand resting on Shauni's shoulder briefly before shaking the lanky, sleeping body. When the school year had ended, Shauni was to return to her mother's in Phoenix, but managed to stay in Newport Beach. It was the arrangement they had agreed upon in order for Shauni get her way with going to school in Newport. She would live in the dorm room during the school year and return home come the summer months. However, her mother had mistakingly paid for an entire year's worth of room and board, including the entire summer. Shauni was thrilled; this meant she could spend her entire summer in Newport. She could be here with her girlfriend and didn't have to convince her mother into letting her bunk with a friend or anything. Shauni had a warm place to rest her head at night and meals paid for through the purchase of the dorm. Besides, Shauni wasn't that rebellious as a child; there wasn't a need to worry about her getting arrested or anything along those lines. Everything just seemed to fit together perfectly in the girl's life.
And for a while, things did seem to fall into place seamlessly. More often than not, the jock found herself curled underneath Joanna's blankets, inhaling the fragrance left from fabric softener. The largest of smiles were always on Shauni's face whenever she was with Joanna Richards. Yes, the Joanna Richards of the famed Richards twins. Though, that wasn't the reason Shauni fell for the girl. Their friendship was almost instantaneous, and as for their dating relationship, well, Shauni felt secure and confident in it. That was something that spoke miles when it came to Shauni. She was a hyperactive bundle and not incredibly shy for that matter, but once feelings began to resonate through her own being, well, Shauni was confused. Most just simply got annoyed with her after some time unless they were just like her. And others, well, they took Shauni in small doses, sometimes an hour or two at the most. So whatever those feelings for Joanna were, they intimidated Shauni. The last thing she wished for was to wind up like her own mother, divorced near five times.
"What?" Her words mumbled, pressing her body closer to the back cushion of the couch. It had been a while since Shauni could fall asleep without crying or stay asleep for that matter. It didn't take much to upset the fragile girl when it came to her ended relationship with Joanna. There was just an emptiness taking over to Shauni since their breakup. Actually, Shauni just lost her entire foundation; she lost her rock. Joanna, somehow, tolerated Shauni's constant childish behavior. And at the same time, Shauni got to see life from a different pair of eyes. She learned how to just sit down and not be constantly moving. That, sometimes, it was fun just to lay around or not be bouncing off the walls. Joanna knew how to handle Shauni and keep her from doing something stupid. Her life had been soccer, friends, and most importantly, Joanna; without the last piece, it only let Shauni room to brew into trouble more than she had before.
Unfortunately for Shauni, things hadn't gone much better. If she wanted to stay in Newport for the rest of her high school years, Shauni would need to find a place to live and soon. It was already July and the dorms had just closed, reimbursing payments for the summer. But instead of focusing on that task, Shauni crashed on friends' or teammates' couches. Regardless of where, Shauni still managed to find somewhere warm to laugh her head at night. At first, she bounced between Emery's and Keeley's where all her things were stored. Though, soon, Shauni felt like a burden on her two best friends while she just moped around. It was hard for the jock to just let the feeling of no longer being in a committed relationship sink into her stomach. Finally, Shauni had enough, attempting to pull herself together in anyway possible. Some of the girls from the soccer team were known for their summer bashes and Shauni had made quite a few friends through the season. The raven haired girl took the opportunity to party, getting Joanna out of her system.
Carefully, Shauni rolled over, her eyes barely creaking open to allow rays of light to constrict her pupils. A hoarse groan moved past her lips, an arm trying to shield her brown eyes. So maybe last night Shauni had gone out to a party. And yes, the girl had a bit too much to drink. It was out of her character, but Shauni didn't really regret it, just disliked the buzzing echoing in her eyes. Finally, she let her face thin out after it cringed at her nose. Able to open her eyes fully, Shauni saw Keeley's familiar face. "Brittany's here... you said you two were gonna look at apartments... remember?" Keeley shook Shauni's side once as the words registered with Shauni. "Shit...," the jock mumbled, kicking the blanket off of her. Pushing herself from the couch, Shauni looked about for a change of clothes, spotting the dress Keeley was kind enough to lay out for her. "I owe you..., big time, Keels," Sha remarked, pulling the dress over her head. Multitasking, Shauni didn't bother with her hair, throwing her black slouchy beanie over it instead as she attempted to put things together. She was still putting on her boots as she clumsily walked down the hall. Huffing, Shauni forcefully shoved her foot into the boot right before turning the corner to see Brittany. "Britt! Sorry, I was still kinda sleeping."
