eugene had always been an artist from the time he was a child; staying up late in the night, painting and drawing. the patton family was notorious for the large law firm that had been established in santa monica in eighteen eight-four and eugene knew his fate. eugene had a choice to make; be accepted by his family and get his large inheritance, or pursue his art. eugene decided to go with his family. he went to law school, and suffered for years upon years in a job he hated. he planned to get back into art year after year but he was afraid that his family would isolate him. after eugene's parent's died and he received his inheritance, eugene opened the patton art institute with his money. he wanted a place where kids could go away and pursue their art of choice, whether is be art, dance, drama, instrumental, or vocal, and he created it. the large school was placed four miles away from the santa monica pier and four days after construction was complete eugene patton died, a happy man. he had been granted his wish. that all artist should be able to make their dreams come true.
