WHO'S THAT GUY?
I DON'T RECOGNIZE
"Whoa, did she just do that!?" a males voice rang out. his warm hair, curled a little on top, cute short, blew against his head in the soft breeze that came around a lot at the park. The cool green in his eyes having total dominance over his usual hazel eyes. He was in complete shock as the blonde female cruised back over skillfully. "What?" a raised eyebrow shot his way when she spotted that his thin, light pink lips were not pressed together in his usual grimace, but separated quite a bit, a dropped jaw essentially. He knew her well, in face they had grown up so far together, but still she had never once seen the young man smile. "How long did it take you to master that?" a cocky tone in his deep voice. And with a simple yet small shrug of her shoulders the familiar placement of his mouth returned. Thin lips pulled at the sides, downward facing. "About two, maybe three days." her small, slightly squeaky voice sounded, forming the words carefully. Her voice would remind you of talking to a very tiny mouse. The red-headed male laughed oand skated away, feet steady on his board. She felt a hand touch the top of her helmet as she wated him making his way over to the group that his girlfriend normally resided in while at the park. It was his approval. Approval that she had not been seeking but had found. She didn't think that if he ever really recognized her skill that it would be a big deal, but it kind of was to her right now.[/blockquote]
She had been going there since she was eight or nine. Mrs. Lawrence, her mother, would pick up her friend Malerie, and drop her and Jaimee off to have a good time. This was the one place in Newport that Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Toner actually trusted to leave them at alone, since they had both grown up with the man and woman that owned and ran the skatepark. At the end of the night, the nine year old girls would be plucking little peices of grass by the side of the road as they waited for their mothers to get them. Jaimee always wished she got to know what the older, high school kids got to do when the little skaters had to vacate and go home, eat, sleep and wake up the next morning for school. What did they get to stay there later, when she was better than most of them even at a young age. Well, now that she was fifteen, a sophomore in highschool, she knew exactly what the high school students had done after hours there. Parties were held there. Everyone viewed the place as a safe haven to skate, socialize, and maybe hook up, without a parent or a parent-like adult, breathing down their neck. Some of them worked night jobs there, trying to get a little under-the-table money. Which, it just so happened, was exactly what Jaimee had been doing today. Her first shift, working her the best place ever, had just ended. Just as her cell phone buzzed, she knew it was over, and she had done a good job. Eight o'clock on the dot. That was when her first shift ended, and when she finally got some sort of freedom from having to remind everyone that something they were doing was not approriate. Now she could relax and just do some serious skating.
Sure, she still enjoyed herself. She spent most of her time here during the summer time and during the school year, look out, she was there as much as she could be, still balancing school work on top of the dance team. Yes, Jaimee also dances. She had started with her older sister at the very very young age of four, her sister being eight. Their brother teased them about it, but she didn't care. She took a liking to that, and only after the place she took lessons was closed at about age seven, did she get into skating. Monday however, stayed with dancing and begged for a new place to go, while Jaimee was just fine not spending two hours in a car being cramped up and miserable to go hurt her feet and many other places as well. She loved that the park was right around the corner from her house, so she could just get her mother's permission and skate over, once she got good enough. Now, she didn't even ask her mother's permission, with her being so frazzled about Monday going off to college. Also that she had become a grandmother sooner than she had wanted. She thought that maybe her kids would wait until they were in their mid-twenties, but no, Jonathan had gotten a little to close to a girl, and BAM!, she moved in with them and they redid the almost pent house sized basement for the two, plus baby, so three to live in. Of course she loved Janelle. The dark hair that ran in the mother's family, but the light hazel, leaning toward the green colored, eyes. Jaimee was forgotten among the mix of problems and worries. Though, she was neither a problem nor a worry at most times, unless she was caught skating in the school's halls again, then there would be a problem.
She skated over to Kingsly really quick and handed in her badge so he could mark that she had actually shown up and everything. That was how they did things here. No time stamps, or time cards. If your badge was not there at the beginning of the shift and you handed it to them at the end, you were going to be paid for the whole shift, even if you took off half-way through it. Kingsly trusted who he hired, and so far he had not been disappointed by any of the younger workers there. "Nice move today Jaimes. But watch your left foot more...you could have gotten hurt today. Safety first then daring and scaring. Remember that." His husky voice spoke. She nodded with a big grin and high-fived the hand he had put up for one. A small nod from him and he was off to do some book keepings. It was sad about him, because he rarely got a chance to skate anymore, but he seemed as happy as a clam. Even happier when his lovely wife would grace the park with her beauty, and baking. Jaimee loved the cookies that Loraine makes. They were better the what the maid at her house could make, and she used to be a pastry chef.
Grabbing a left over cookie from ealier, still soft and perfect, she rolled away from the office building part of the park and into the main area. She smiled around at her friends, greeting them and laughing. Then, an accidentaly turn of her head when she heard her name being called, her eyes captured a boy. His face was unfamiliar to her, so she scrunched her nose a little, hoping maybe she did know him, and that she just needed a different perscription for her contacts or glasses. Either or. She shrugged not knowing who it was. Though, when she heard the name Newt ring across the park, she looked back over. A younger looking blonde, a female this time, ran over and jumped on the boys back, a laugh from him and he trudged away with her, over to where Kingsly was sitting, tapping his leg with a pencil. She watched for another moment, wondering who these two were. The female leaned her chin on the boys head affectionately, and was speaking to him. Jaimee couldn't read lips, and she didn't really want to at the moment anyway, but she was sure that she had said something about "mom". Rolling over to one of her friends, she heard the same name over and over again. Newt. With furrowed eyebrows she turned toward the brunette female that was talking about a girl almost killing herself over a twinkie, and spoke up. Taking off her helmet, she removed a small, gray knit hat from her back pocket. Placing it carefully, and just so, on her head her lips started moving, her squeaks making works. "Who is the new guy, with the girl on his back?" She asked. Malerie, the very same one that she once came here with all the time, smiled at her. The red-headed male, Dane, laughed and wrapped his arms around Malerie's waist. Yes, his girlfriend was none other than Jaimee's best friend. "That's Edward Royal...and that's his little sister, Stella. They moved into the old Granger House about a month ago. Wonder what they are doing here though....neither look much like a skater." Jaimee shrugged, her light eyes watching carefully, as the two, Stella now walking on her own, made their way to a bright red convertable that another blonde form was seated in. Stella smiled when she spied a dog hopping up at her, and Edward frowned a little, poking at the fuzzy creature. Pulling out a reddish skate-board from the backseat, he waved and walked away from the car, which was starting to pull away, Stella and fuzzy dog seated contently in the front seat.
She gave up watching, seeing he was just another one of the new males that thought they should just grace the park with their "amazing skills". She started skating away, her footing on the board suddenly not as stable as it normally was, and bam, she was down, her knees hitting hard against the ground, as well as her hands. She was fine, but her board wasn't so great. In her epic fall, she lost a wheel. Looking all around for it, she noticed a hand holding out the shiny purple wheel to her. Looking up, Edwards face was what she looked into. She smiled. "Hey, thanks. That would have been a pain to order more of." she squeaked snatching the wheel quickly, standing up, board under her arm.
