SHE LIKES CHOCOLATE IN THE MORNING

BUT SHE IS PARTICAL TO THE RAIN
Morning hit her harder than even a brick could. No she was not hung over, or tired, but stunned. She was alone in the house. From the living room downstairs she could hear only silence. Her sheets wrapped around her body in result to her twisting and turning while she slept that night. The reality that she could do something, anything, before the sounds returned, the constant chatter from Ramona, her little sister, about this and that, the loud noise bags being kicked and her brother grunting while working out, and her mother's constant sighing about something else that she had done wrong, brought a smile to her face. Even her step father played part in this soundtrack of her life, however his little ditty, right between another strange observation by Ramona and a sigh from her mother as Russo switched over the television channel for the tenth time in a row, was much better than anyone elses. His voice was soothing, always guiding her in thr right direction. No, she wasn't that fond of him, but she respected him because, even though her had been the reason behind the divorce of her parents, and her mother moving out here when she and William were still little children, in need of their mother. But how could she really hate him when he was the reason that she go to be an older sister to the most unique and fascinatingly amazing girl ever. She couldn't hate him, because without him being in the picture, Ramona wouldn't be here. So, she talked to him more than her own mother. So, why was she with her mother here in California when her rightful place was in Austin, Texas with the rest of her friends and family? Why had she been here for almost three years now? Well, because her father, William's father too, was an army man. They had lived with him, their mother and him agreeing to holidays being spent with her except Christmas, that would be like they were all a family again, and when he was called away for duty, instead of packing up everyone and moving them all around until they ended up right back in the same place, he gave the old family house to his sister, and sent William and Russo off to live with their mother, thinking it would be best for them. Sadly, her thoughts scanned back over to the reason she was never in Texas anymore, her father's convoy was bombed, and only one person survived, long enough to return a slightly burnt picture to Russo of her and her father that had been a recent picture he carried with him everywhere. He and William had a picture too but they said this was the only thing found on him, other than the dogtags that were now glued to Will's neck. The light in her room shone bright from the summer sun, high in the sky already.1633
Hours passed from the time she woke up to the next time she found herself in her room. Her clothing peeled from her body, the paint that covered it weighing it down a little, along with the soapy water that had been squeezed onto her from a sponge. Her friend ever since her first visit here when she was seven, Jake Rylee Heart, was waiting for her down stairs, after their crazy paint and water fight while cleaning a mess that Russo's insanely "creative" little sister made. Jake and her had quite the history. Oh yes, these two were partner s in crime ever since they were little and they spent the summer months together. Her youngest memory from California was of her and Jake crouching in the bushes, ages seven and nine, William looking for her because their mother was looking for her, again she had done something wrong, when she fell and skinned her knee, muddying up her Fourth of July dress. She remebered seeing her brother's face when they jumped out, her arms wrapping around his neck, immediately causing them to fall, and her getting a broken arm because of it. That was their first summer, and the only one that last less than two months, before her dad made them come home because of the broken arm incident. He trusted his ex-wife, but he was worried that it had not happened the way that William told it, and that it was just a cover. After hearing from a doctor that it would had to been landed on, and hard, almost like a pouncing action occurred, did he believe that it was just because she was a silly little girl who was playing aorund with a friend and her brother.
The next summer had been even more fun, and no one got hurt that time. They went swimming at the local pool with Jake and his little sisters. That was when she and Jake became almost like best friends. Where ever Russo was, Jake was surely going to be there soon enough, and vise versa. They loved being together, and many times begged for camp outs in someone's back yard just to spend more time together, to play. By the ages of thirteen and fifteen, she was between the grades seventh and eighth, he was going to be a freshman that school year coming up. That was when she secretly developed a crush on him. Though soon enough that went away. When she started seeing him with scrapes and bruises that he wouldn't, but siad he couldn't explain. She was worried he was hurting himself, though she knew nothing about that even at thirteen. Sure her parents were not together, and hadn't been for a while, but she was still a happy girl, never really got why someone would want to hurt themselves. It was actually a strange concept to her, pain that wasn't accidental, like from falling or something. A parents hitting their child seemed to be a sore subject with Jake, when she was telling him about a study she had read about when she was still in school. He didn't like to listen to things about such topics, and changed the subject away from that, and the scapes and cuts, the bruises that only grew worse. He winced a lot when he moved some days, and other days he would flat out refuse to go swimming with her, because he didn't feel good, or he was helping his mom around the house that day. She was so confused by his hot and cold days that she ended her final visiting summer confused and a little hurt that she thought she was losing her best friend. The next summer was filled with packing boxes and arranging them in anew room that she could walk around without falling.
That was three summers ago, the beginning of her freshman year. Leaving behind everything she knew to have an eternal summer in California worried her a bit, but she always had Jake with her. And now, he was there with her, well waiting for her while she changed. She was going to his place to bake brownies, not wanted to spend anymore time with her mother, trying to get away before she's roped into unloading the car and putting the groceries away, she hated doing that. Hopping down the stairs after she threw on a quick look, yet adorable look, hello, she had to look cute if she was spending the day with Jake. She could always feel the crush emerging now aways, when he was away from the pain his famil caused him when they were younger. "MOM! Did you pick up what I needed?!" a scream escaped her lips, loudly, and full of distaste. Seeing a red box fly out of the kitchen and onto the floor in front of her she nodded, picking it up. Now Jake would not have to pick up the mix. Grinning over at the tall soon to be senior man she just couldn't help liking him a little. Hell, he was the closest thing that was ever boyfriend-ish with her for her whole life. He cared about her a lot more than himself sometimes, normally when she needed help with something, or was sick or hurt. Though since the broken arm at age seven, he had never seen her physically hurt again Picking up the box carefully, she shook it at Jake with a large smile. "So, are we going?" She asked him pushing him a little, though hardly moving him, out the door so she could get away quick.
As the two scurried to the car that Jake owned, she saw Ramona cutting the grass with an old lawn mower, the kind that spins as you push it, made all of metal. Rommie's dad was sitting there, his name is Brian, and he happens to be the step-father of Russo. He nodded as the little girl obviously having a ball pushed the mower harder each time, falling and staining her jeans with the grass. Russo blew the little girl a kiss who made a huge, over exaggerated effort to catch it and put it in her pocket. Sitting in the passenger seat, her eyes skimmed to Brian, who just nodded at her a knowing nod. He knew that her mother had no idea she was leaving, but he would have to tell her later that she was at Jake's house. "So Mr. Movie Star...tell me. What is the kitten's name?" She laughed as the engine started and they sped off to where Jake now resides.------------------------------------------------------
